Memorandum of Cooperation

On the one hand, LEPL State Agency for Religious Issues (hereinafter – the Agency), represented by its chairperson – Zaza Vashakmadze, and on the other hand, The United Nations Children’s Fund in Georgia (hereinafter – UNICEF) represented by its Representative Ghassan Khalil, express their willingness of cooperation by signing this Memorandum of Cooperation.
1. The Subject of the Memorandum of Cooperation
1.1 Being guided in their work by the Constitution of Georgia, generally recognized principles of International law and the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC), the Parties agree as follows: the subject of the Memorandum of Cooperation is to promote and protect the rights of the child through engagement and cooperation with the religious denominations, as well as to facilitate the cooperation between the Parties.
2. The Intention of the Parties
2.1 The Parties agree to cooperate on the following issues:
a) establish cooperation with the religious leaders to promote and protect the rights of the child;
b) organize thematic meetings with the Interreligious Council operating under LEPL State Agency for Religious Issues with the participation of different religious denominations to promote and protect the rights of the child;
c) raise the awareness of religious leaders on the rights of the child and increase their role in protecting children’s rights;
d) organize and plan joint meetings, seminars, workshops on the rights of the child with the religious denominations;
2.2 The Parties shall develop an annual action plan on the promotion and protection of the rights of the child for the religious denominations based on the mutual agreement and cooperation.
3. The Validity Term of the Memorandum of Cooperation
3.1. This Memorandum of Cooperation shall enter into force upon its signature by the Parties and shall remain in force until either Party requires its termination in writing.
3.2 The Parties shall evaluate cooperation foreseen by this Memorandum of Cooperation on an annual basis.
3.3 The decision on termination of the Memorandum of Cooperation shall be notified in writing to the other Party within 30 calendar days before the termination.
3.4. This Memorandum of Cooperation shall be made in two copies, in Georgian and English and each copy shall be kept by each of the Parties.
