In the framework of the visit to Israel the chairman of the State Agency for Religious Issues Zaza Vashakmadze and the delegation members met with the members of the Council of Georgian-Jewish Rabbis in Herzliya: rabbi Tskhak Modzghvrishvili, rabbi Shabtai Mikhelashvili, rabbi Aaron Elashvili, rabbi Bentsion Mikhelashvili, rabbi Raphael Chikvashvili and the chairman of the Association of Georgian-Jewish Rabbis Tamaz Sepiashvili.
The meeting was held in a warm and emotional atmosphere with the members of the Council of Georgian-Jewish Rabbis. The rabbis expressed their gratitude to the Georgian state for the maintenance of their synagogues, as well as for the opening of a unique Jewish museum in Tbilisi, for celebrating 120th anniversary of Oni synagogue and 275th anniversary of Akhaltsikhe synagogue.
The chairman of the agency introduced the main trends of the state religious policy to the guests. The rabbis appreciated the policy developed by the state in terms of financing religious organizations and transferring of religious buildings. Interreligious calendar developed by the State Agency for Religious Issues gained their special approval. At the meeting opinions on implementation of joint projects in Batumi and Tbilisi were expressed.
Finally, the visit of the Council of Georgian-Jewish Rabbis to Georgia has been planned. The visit of the delegation of the State Agency for Religious Issues to Israel has been completed.
